Rivers' Edge International Film Festival

The Rivers' Edge International Film Festival starts Thursday and brings independent film to the smart, arts-oriented, mid-American river town of Paducah. Films from around the world will be shown this weekend at Maiden Alley Cinema, Yeiser Art Center and Market House Studio Theatre.

Zombies Walk on Saturday

Hundreds of local zombies will haunt the streets of Downtown Paducah this Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. for the second annual Zombie Walk. Don’t be spooked, though. They follow a strict zombie-code, complete with behavior, traffic and costume rules. Participation in the walk is free, but all zombies are asked to bring a nonperishable food or monetary donation. The walk will start at 9th and Broadway. Donations benefit The Family Service Society of Paducah, The Paducah Renaissance Alliance or the Paducah Zombie Walk group.

These lovely zombies recognize the importance to help our local charities and those in need, and want to preserve downtown Paducah's historic character. Loves it!

Carson Center’s Distiller’s Dinner

Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge will headline the Carson Center’s annual Distiller’s Dinner this Saturday. The premium bourbon, made in Lawrenceburg, Ky., will be smoothly incorporated into a multiple-course gourmet dinner prepared by Artisan Kitchen. Mystery and Moonlight with Market House Theatre

Local spirits return for Market House Theatre’s ghost tours this Friday and Saturday night. Tour downtown Paducah by lantern light or hop on board a spook-driven bus for tours of Downtown and Lowertown. Walking tour $15 adults, $5 children 6-12. Bus tour $18 adults, $7 children ages 6-12.

The haunts will be a-stirring during An Evening of Mystery and Moonlight at Oak Grove Cemetery on Friday, October 22. Upon the designated chime, groups will walk to the Mausoleum for a short performance by Artist & Mentalist Todd Duff, and then proceed through an interactive lantern lit walking tour of Oak Grove Cemetery. Tours begin at 7:00, 7:45, 8:30. Tickets $30. More moonlight walking tours of Oak Grove Cemetery to be held October 23, 28 and 29.

Get your spook on during the month of October as Market House guides recount historic legend and lore surrounding some of Paducah’s most intriguing citizens.

Shutterbug’s Project United

Talia Housman, age 11, is raising funds and awareness for United Way's Project United 2010 by selling photos of downtown Paducah. From her view looking up, she’s captured incredible snapshots our local community. Stop by Kijsa Housman Studios, 444 North 8th Street, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Purchase sets of 10 3.5x5 prints for a donation of $10 per set. 100 sets have been packaged in hopes of raising $1,000 for the Project United, Saturday, Sept. 11. Loves it!

The United Way of Paducah-McCracken County raises funds and distributes them to 14 partner agencies. With the United Way raising funds, the partner agencies can focus on what they do best — serving our community.

Need a sign from above? A Southern Gospel Concert will bring it to Paducah on Friday, Aug. 27. Presented by Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church, this concert features The Issacs, Gordon Mote and Buddy Greene.

If you miss out, you may be in line for another sign. “Here’s Your Sign” comedian Bill Engvall stops in Paducah Saturday, Sept. 25. Whatever you need, you’ll find there’s something to love about the Carson Center’s 2010-2011 season!

2010 Paducah Summer Festival

The Paducah Summer Festival opens this week! This family-friendly event will be held on The Carson Center front lawn, and includes great food, fabulous music, the 20/30 Group’s Kick ball tournament, Budweiser’s Beer on the Bricks, Kidz Day at The Quilt Museum and The USO Big Band Dance hosted by Legacy Personal Care Home. Been practicing the “couch potato”? Show your stuff during The Furniture World 100, sponsored by Furniture World Galleries & Mattress Superstore. This 100-yard dash involves your old recliner supped up with fancy racing wheels and a good buddy to push you (fully reclined) to the finish line.

Join us Thursday as IList Paducah shows some Local Love, 5pm-10pm with The Union Suit, Jennifer Fox and the Pillow Fighters and Bawn in the Mash.

This is one of the longest running festivals in Paducah. Loves it!

Photos at Yeiser

Now through July 24, stop by the Yeiser Art Center to view this year’s Paducah Photo 2010 exhibition, featuring 101 photographs by 76 artists from all over the world. 429 photographers from 18 foreign countries, 42 states and the District of Columbia submitted a total of 1,190 photographs. This year’s juror, Michael Johnson, is a Professor of Art at Murray State University.

The Yeiser has brought a deep appreciation of the visual arts to our region and provides educational opportunities to nurture the creative spirit in all of us. Loves it!

This summer, be WOW’d by the principal players of the Paducah Symphony’s String, Brass and Wind Sections in “Concerts of Interesting Music in Interesting Spaces,” sponsored by Paducah Bank.

Sarah’s Love List: Local Music at Hotel Metropolitan

The Upper Town Heritage Foundation will pay tribute to local musicians this Saturday at 5p.m. at Hotel Metropolitan, located at 724 Oscar Cross Ave. Admission is free, although donations are welcome. Free Passes for Active Duty Military, Immediate Families

Now through September 6 active duty military and immediate families will be able to visit the River Discovery Center and the National Quilt Museum for free! This program, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, allows active duty military and their immediate family members to go to more than 700 museums in the U.S. free of charge, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Kentucky has 12 participating museums. Any active duty or a spouse of someone on active duty may visit with up to five immediate family members at no cost.

The Paducah Rotary Club offered free admission to all veterans during the Rotary Antique Quilt Show in April. Such a gesture is a lovely way to thank our military families for their sacrifices and bravery. Loves it!

Local Utilities Turn It Up for United Way

The United Way staff and board of directors are truly awesome! They have assembled a Utilities United Softball Tournament set for 10 a.m., Saturday, June 12, at Stuart Nelson Park. And check out this line up of participants: local utility companies Paducah Power, Paducah Water, Jackson Purchase Energy and New Wave Communications.

Cheer on your favorite team, then get your corn hole and face paintin’ on! Bring some cash, $5 admission and $5 per player/corn hole game. I’m sure donations are welcome too.

It was a match made on the dodgeball court when wife Nancy of CVS and hubby Rob of Best Buy (photoed left) chunked regulated yellow balls at each other during our April 17's Dodgeball Tournament at the Plex. Hubs Charlie (also from Best Buy) and his lovely wife (photoed right) joined in also, as each team competed for bragging rights.
